For those of you who don't know, I love Michael Jackson. He's my husband, my idol and will forever be The King of Pop. So when my mom said they were going to do a live tribute in New Jersey we jumped at the chance. Of course we waited a week to check the show reviews and the venue but after everything checked out we bought two tickets off Groupon to see MJ Live in Engelwood, New Jersey. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be an epic night turned out to be thoroughly disappointing.
For one, I thought they were just going to play MJ's music, maybe project a few images and videos onto a big screen. Although I guess you would need a license for that, but I would have preferred that rather than have someone trying to impersonate him; because even though the man could dance, the singing wasn't all that great. First. Where was the diversity? I think this was one of the biggest problems of the show. As a man literally of many colors I at least expected, if not the crowd, but the performers to have more than one African American on the stage. But that's exactly all I saw. One African American with dreads and another brown girl. The actual 'Michael Jackson' is from Brazil and the band had the black keyboard player in the back. Everyone else was white and I'm upset and appalled. Believe it or not people, Michael Jackson was black even when he was white; and I'm not saying everyone can't sing and dance to his music but we need to be included, especially in something like this. It was disappointing and dare I say, I was a little offended. It's 2018 people, get it together. Next. I hated how the people in the crowd were actually screaming out as if it were the actual Michael Jackson on stage. Now it's one thing to enjoy the performance but cheer for the performer because last time I checked, the actual Michael Jackson is dead-may he rest in peace-because trust me, if it were actually him on stage I'd have either have run away screaming or tried to climb the stage. (I'd probably try to do both on my way out. lol). Not to mention, the music kind of sucked. Sometimes the songs were played too fast or cut right in the middle and maybe that's the way concerts go but as a live band I had hoped for a lot more. The dancers were a little off beat, a dancer knocked down the mic stand! I just felt like the entire set up was a little unprofessional especially when the songs would start when 'MJ' was still backstage going through a costume change and he was singing from behind the curtain. It was a major turn off. And maybe I'm being a little harsh but if you're looking for style and pizazz I definitely wouldn't recommend it. But then again, maybe I'm wrong and the show they do in Vegas is better. All I know is, MJ Live was a bust, at least for me. I'm just glad I got those coupons for discounted tickets on Groupon.

1/15/2018 0 Comments My 2018 goals2018 is finally here! And yes I'm like three weeks late but better late than never right? Anyways, everyone already probably wrote out their resolutions, 'eat healthy', 'work out', 'stay positive', but i wanted to write out some achievable goals just because they're more tangible and probably a lot easier to accomplish than just vague shouts into the void; and I thought why not share them with you? So here they are:
1. Journal almost every day I used to journal a lot when I was younger but as I got older I found myself typing a lot more which is all well and good but sometimes I like to pull out a pen and some paper and write out my thoughts. It's a good way to clear your had and to help wind down after a long day. Instead of watching TV or going on my phone I find journaling to be extremely relaxing and having done it for a few days now, I'd like to get back to that steady habit for the new year. 2. Start my blog Which I did and now I'm very happy and just because I didn't mention this before I think I'll make this a weekly thing. Yay! 3. Slowly update my wardrobe I know it may sound a little pretentious of me but I'm being very serious when I say I need a wardrobe update. I was cleaning out my closet a couple of days ago and I pulled out a good 75% of my closest that I either don't wear or can't fit anymore. (I'm also planning on selling the stuff so if anyone can recommend a good website-or two-that I can use, comment down below. It will be realty appreciated). So I want to pull out old pieces to make room for new pieces especially since I find that I need certain things like more business attire or even simple items like a good leather jacket or a basic black t-shirt. Stuff I don't have but definitely need will be a part of that list. 4. Get my permit and drivers license Definitely something I've been thinking about for awhile now. I know who have already gotten their permits, others who are working on it but I knew that I personally wanted to use this summer to get this done just because I wanted to do everything at the same time and not have to worry that if I wait too long after I get my permit I'll forget or get too busy. Hopefully by September I'll be a legal licensed driver! 5. Get on a better sleep schedule So far I'm not doing so good since I'm currently writing this at 2:30 in the morning but it's okay. It'll take a little time and practice but it's definitely something I need to start doing because I'm tired of being tired. I wake up too early and go to bed too late and I know I'll be a lot healthier and more productive if I just can get to bed at a reasonable hour, so... I'm working on it. 6. Stay organized and clean my room Slowly, of course, but I find that having a cleaner and neater space, whether it be my room or my locker, helps keep me organized and less frazzled just because now I know where everything is and I can see where all of my stuff is. So it's a work in progress but it's progress. Besides, I'm looking forward to seeing my bedroom floor again. Lol. 7. Spend more quality time with my mom For those of you who know me already know that my mom and I are literally joined at the hip. We do everything together, we talk about everything together and she's honestly my best friend but I will be going to college soon and she and i both worry about missing each other once I'm away; so this year i really want to make even more memories and spend even more time with her just so that we can say we spent my last two years making some great memories together. And that's it for my 2018 goals! I hope you enjoyed. I really hope that I can stick to these goals this year especially being that I think a lot of them are well achievable. Let me know down in the comments what your goals for 2018 are and we can chat (because I love to chat). Until next time! With love, Arianna Back in 2014, I was in seventh grade and Wattpad was all the new rave. I was just getting into it when a friend recommended After by Anna Todd and I’ve been hooked ever since. Now it’s four years later, (can you believe it’s actually 2018? I’ve got to get used to writing that on all of my homework now) and I’ve read all 8 of Anna’s books except for this one, The Spring Girls, that just came out January 2.
I swear I’ve been stalking Anna on Instagram ever since she mentioned she was writing a new book and then she finally released it (of course the US got it last) so I watched and waited jealously as Spain and France got their copies first. *Sigh* but I digress. IT’S FINALLY HERE! And...I haven’t gotten it yet. And before you start rolling your eyes and throwing daggers, I’ll explain why. If you know The Spring Girls (which you do because I just put the little blurb there. You’re welcome.) you know that it’s a modern retelling of Little Women and while I patiently wait to make my trip to Barnes N’ Noble I thought it would be good to read the book that inspired this one. Maybe I should have read this book by now or maybe it’s not a big deal but my goodness this book is boring. And it’s terrible because I think I have it in my head that the original will be just as amazing but I often have to remind myself that this was written in 1869 and is not at all in out sense of the term, ‘modernized’. So my question to you, fellow readers, is should I power through; that way I get a true taste of the original and have something to compare it to (and add another classic under my reading belt that’s not through school)? Or can I just give up and give in and buy The Spring Girls? Let me know what you think in the comments down below. Like and share and follow me on my socials if you love to chat (because I love to chat). Unitle next time! With love, Arianna |
